Hebbian learning

Learning like neurons.

In 1949, psychologist Donald Hebb discovered how the brain learns connections. Hebby brings that principle to the memory of your AI agents.

Key takeaways

Hebbian learning means: what is active together, connects. Hebby applies this core principle of human memory to AI agents. It learns with every session what belongs together and brings it along before you ask.

What is Hebbian learning?

The Hebbian learning rule goes back to the Canadian psychologist Donald O. Hebb. In his classic The Organization of Behavior (1949), he described how neurons learn: when two cells are repeatedly active at the same time, the connection between them grows stronger. The principle became famous as a catchphrase: "What fires together, wires together."

Hebbian learning is still considered one of the foundations of memory and association. It explains why the scent of cinnamon instantly brings Christmas to mind. And why one thought sets off the next all by itself.

The problem with classic AI memory

Most memory solutions for AI are rigid. They find what sounds similar and forget, once the answer is given, whether it helped. Whether a memory was useful a hundred times or never, next time it counts the same. A memory that doesn't learn from experience never gets more accurate. Why similarity alone falls short anyway is shown in the guide Graph Memory.

Hebbian learning in Hebby

This is exactly where Hebby comes in. In its in-house Graph Memory, projects, people, systems and decisions are connected. And those connections learn:

  • Used together, linked closer. What is useful together in your work moves closer together in Hebby.
  • Learned fast, kept long. Hebby learns connections right away and holds on to them as long as they hold up.
  • Relearns with you. When projects and responsibilities change, Hebby adapts its network on its own.

Hebby doesn't just remind you of what you search for. It reminds you of what you're about to need.

What you get out of it

  • An agent that thinks along: It knows the context before you explain it.
  • Fewer mistakes: Last week's pitfall shows up right on time.
  • Better every day: The longer you work with Hebby, the more accurate it gets.

That's how a forgetful AI agent becomes a partner with real memory. Built by psychologists, modeled on the human brain.
